She Sells Sea Shells by the Sea Shore

Artist Name: Alvarez, Jose Alva L.
Address: Mataasnakahoy, Batangas, Philippines
Title of the Work: She Sells Sea Shell by the Sea Shore
Medium: Acrylic
Support: Canvas
Dimensions: 3’x4’
Year: 2007
Description: The portrait of the lady represents not only the beauty of Filipinas but the beauty of the Philippines as a whole. The theme focused on the environment so, as a Batanguenyo, I used the mystical beauty of the famous Taal Volcano combined with exaggerated waves to create a dramatic effect. The sky seemed to resemble an image of the Philippine flag as others commented. The shells in the lady’s dress are only used for accents since the Taal Lake does not produce these kinds of shells though it helped me a lot on deciding what title to put in the piece.
This piece is my official entry to the 2007 GSIS Painting Competition, and also my very first work using paint on a canvas.

naks naman ang aking kaibigan..kahusay..!
I really like the dress., it is meticulously made, Is she dancing because of her undying beauty, or is she missing something?
Yeah, meticulously made.. the intricacies of the details is what i intended to put in this work.. you can say she’s dancing here but what i wanted everyone to grasp is the emotion overflowing from her. thanks man!
